A short 2 hour train ride from Rome to Umbria took me to Foligno, where my cousin Martha picked me up at the train station and we drove to Spello.

With Martha and her neighbor in Spello.
Spello is a small medieval hilltop town dating back to the time of the Romans.
Streets mostly for pedestrians, but can you believe cars too?
My gracious hosts Doug and Martha
pedestrians only
Public drinking water…fill up
your water bottle!
It’s the olive harvest. We took a fun hike through the hillside olive orchards.
Soon to be Olive Oyl…I mean, olive oil.
Spello from the olive orchards
View of Assisi from the olive orchards. The castle is at the top; church of St Francis lower left.
Mmm…gelato apres hike.
