After leaving Karen’s. I headed to Fort Collins. I love returning to Poudre Canyon. The Mishawaka has a delightful deck next to the Poudre, which is great for lunch. Not unusual to see white water rafters and kayakers surging by.
The road traverses the narrow canyon.
The upper river is wild. No kayaking here!
A relic from the past.
Kinikinik is a palindromic little former village in upper Poudre canyon. This old store is pretty much the only thing left (it’s been closed since at least ‘96….that’s a lot of fishin’). It has been lucky the last number of years because everything around (literally) has burned in the fires that have plagued the front range in recent years. Fire crews managed to save this piece of history!
Rustic, Colorado.
One of my favorite signs of all time. Unfortunately Rustic Resort burned down 20 years ago. All that’s left are some extremely small, rustic fisherman’s huts (electric only) down by the river, and this funky sign.
10,184 feet. While at home it’s 94° and 75% humidity, at La Poudre pass it’s 63° with little humidity.
Love the mountains!
