Upon crossing into Argentina at
Paso Hua Hum, we drove to
San Martín de los Andes.
Such a beautiful little city. Situated
in northwestern Argentine Patagonia, near the Chilean border.
We had a blast here.

Oh, and there were chocolate shops everywhere, due to the German immigrant influence. We had to check them out and sample several of them! Omg the dark chocolate layered with dulce de leche is sublime!
Had a lot of fun phone-identifying flowers and especially trees endemic to this geographic area.
Especially the Araucaria, my fav.
This is just a baby!
Here is a bigger specimen. They grow
into very large conifers! Much bigger
than this one.
Also grows in the US Pacific Northwest,
as the monkey puzzle tree. Originates
in the southern hemisphere.

A little bit of Italy in San Martín de los Andes. Actually, I think Italianos are the largest immigrant group in Argentina.
Marianne favors a Pisco Sour, but I am doing research on the progress of IPA brewing (pronounced “ee-pah”)
in Patagonia (nascent 2 years ago…
now happy to report great strides
have been made in taste and breadth of offering.
Tasty
A mountain ambience is maintained, along with what they call Alpine-Andino architecture.
Couldn’t pass up this big mouth. (Juxtaposed with the neon girl in the window…lol.)
We especially liked walking the centro in the evening with all the local families with little kids. Here in Plaza San Martín
a juggler on a unicycle entertains.
The kidz loved it!
