Penguins this way
To board the tour boat, people take turns being ferried out to the boat in the surf
on a rubber-tired platform with railing. They roll you out there and then you
step into the boat.
Helps to have a couple of strong
guys in waders.

In 1999 the 3 little islets of Puñihuil were declared a Natural Monument because they are an important site for the reproduction of the Humboldt and the Magellanic penguins. A mixed penguin colony like this is not very common in Chile. In addition, the islets are the habitat for several other birds and also marine otters.

Our guide was a character.
He knew penguins!
Yes, they swim all the way from the
tip of South America to Chiloe
to breed and nest every summer,
and then back again.
