My grandson texts me in April:
“Do you want to go to the World Cup together?”
“Argentina vs Algeria is in Kansas City on the 16th of June. That’s a fun match near you.”
The crowd was chanting Messi, Messi, Messi, and bowing down. It was a sea of Albiceleste jerseys. Singing and chanting broke out spontaneously (repeatedly).
“La Albiceleste” is the nickname for the Argentine National Football Team. Literal translation is “the white and sky blue”, which are the colors of the Argentine flag.
